That is all there is to it. You CHOOSE to be thankful. If you aren’t sure whether you are or not, here is a good test. How many times in the past week have you said ‘thank you’ to someone WITH an explanation of exactly what you are thankful for? It isn’t enough to say ‘thank you’. It needs to be followed by ‘because you have been….such a good waitress, or a wonderful wife, or a person who spoke the truth to me, or….you get the idea. TELL the world and the people in it what you are thankful for, and mean it. THAT is the choice you have to make.
“Some People Grumble Because Roses Have Thorns. I am Thankful Thorns Have Roses.” – Alphonse Karr
This is #1 in a week long ‘thankful’ series of napkins. Some may have been posted before but they are relevant this week so they are going back up again!
Tell me, or someone, what you are thankful for this week. Don’t make stuff up, whatever you say, have it be something you really do feel the emotion of thankfulness (or gratefulness) about.
“But one life to lose for my country” – Patrick Henry
I just read about Patrick Henry in a book about what the founding father’s really believed about religion. He was such a great orator that he reversed votes time and again simply by the force of his words. This quote is just one of many he had. Would have been wonderful to have recordings of him. And being able to inspire is what being a cheerleader is all about so I guess the drawing is accurate, eh?
So, the question becomes…are pretty people the good people and ugly people the bad people? Did Disney get it right? If you think that is not true, then why is that an absolute in almost all entertainment?
How do you receive your messages? What messages do you receive (and act on) that you aren’t even aware of? Why aren’t you aware of them? Were you once aware of them? Can you ever be aware of them? What would you do once you were aware of them.
A bit of Rene Magritte that I stuffed in my daughters’ lunches one morning. Surrealism is a way to critique and upend assumptions. So, answer me this…why ISN’T this a green word?
This man is smart about getting knowledge. He hired the world famous ‘Ladder Man’ (as seen on TV) to climb up to the hole in his head and pour in important information. I wish I had that guy!
“America The Beautiful Is Beautiful Today” – Marty Coleman
I am a complete sucker for our elections in general but nothing in my lifetime is as grand and wonderful a statement about us and our predecessors as Obama’s election yesterday. I am not talking about him being a democrat and I am not talking about his policies.
I am talking about the people of America taking our obligation seriously and really paying attention to our world and what we want to see happen in it.
What I love most of all though is that how I raised my daughters, to be color blind and focused on who a person really is, is something that many of our generation taught our kids and it has come home in reality now.
In the end the vast majority of baby boomers and children of baby boomers (including the ones who didn’t vote for him) didn’t care if he was black, white or biracial. They cared that he gave them hope in their country and hope that we can be who we said we wanted to be 232 years ago. And the answer to any who doubt, here and around the world, is Yes we can.
