“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless we preach as we walk.” – St. Francis
While I am no longer a believer in Christian evangelism, I am a believer in practicing what you preach. This quote clarifies the futility of preaching if you only do it on the alter, instead of wherever you are. Figuring out how to live according to your principles daily instead of just talking about them is a very noble goal!
“Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.” – Gerard De Nerval
This might be a little sappy, but if you ever were moved by a beautiful swath of wild flowers on the side of the road you know what this is about. The great thing about flowers, indeed, all of nature, is that there isn’t any ‘trying’ to make something great. There is only what grows naturally and becomes what it is suppose to become. That is what makes it great.
“The longer you stay in one place, the greater your chances of disillusionment.” – Art Spander
I wonder if the author meant staying physically in one place or staying emotionally in one place. I can see both being true, but I can also see staying in one place emotionally increasing the chances of happiness as well. What do you think?
“The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light it gets, the more it contracts.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes
That means you have to shine your light on them. It also means you have to be willing to have light shone on yourself since all of us have something we don’t understand or see correctly. We all have things to learn and areas in which we can grow and the first step in that is being open minded about new ideas and new ways of looking at things.
It is like Jesus said ‘Don’t worry about the speck in your friend’s eye until you get the log out of your own’.
“The final test of fame is to have a crazy person imagine he is you.” – Mel Brooks
And I thought the final test was to have a TV movie of the week made about your addiction and recovery and 2nd addiction and recovery and your ultimate redemption by getting a TV movie of the week made about your addiction and recovery.
I wrote this quote to my daughters in response to seeing so much false (and useless) humility within the church. So many seem to feel the necessity to condemn themselves due to the ‘original sin’ idea. They are afraid of appearing prideful if they say they like themselves, or are proud of themselves and so they go the opposite direction and say they aren’t the ones behind any success, it’s Jesus or God that did it, or that they still have so many issues, etc. that any success they have isn’t really worth bragging about.
I love that Spurgeon (a christian writer of old) says it in all its simplicity. Know yourself and be honest about yourself and you will have humility. That includes being courageous enough to state your talents and skills and accomplishments. They are asreal as your faults.
“Humility is to make the right estimate of one’s self.” – Charles Spurgeon
“Unbelief in one thing is founded upon blind belief in another.”
So, if this is the case, what are your unbeliefs? And once you tell us that, how did your beliefs, blind or otherwise, create those unbeliefs? Or, maybe you don’t believe this quote about unbelief?
For those of you who either had a bummer of a ‘Love Day’ or had a great one but now it is back to the grind, may this quote help you sing rather than pout.
In anticipation of ‘Love Day’ I thought this quote was appropriate. Think about how you make your loved one feel….not about you, but about themselves. If they are pleased with themselves they will be pleased with you.
“If anyone is to remain pleased with you, they should be pleased with themselves whenever they think of you.”
